About the bksb Revision Scenarios and Exam Practice for Functional Skills

The bksb Revision Scenarios are the final element of the bksb Functional Skills process. This element of the process is normally completed after the Skill Checks, but they can also be used by learners as a standalone product. Effectively, our scenarios are practice papers. They allow the learner to apply their skills and logic to problems and situations that they may encounter in everyday life, in preparation for taking the Functional Skills assessments in English, maths and ICT.

There are six Revision Scenarios at Level 1 and Level 2 for English and maths. These are available online via the bksbLIVE platform.

There are four Revision Scenarios at Entry Level 2, Entry Level 3, Level 1 and Level 2 for ICT. They are available to download in pdf format only.

At each level, our scenarios are packaged with answers, guides, and marking schemes – making it easy for the learner to interpret their results. Additionally, results for English and maths are available on bksbLIVE and can be downloaded in pdf format.

Another key benefit of our Revision Scenarios is that they provide an essential resource for all teaching professionals working with Functional Skills. Tutors can take extracts from our scenarios for use in the classroom and assess their learners via timed practice tests.

New Functional Skills Exam Practice – Our Revision Scenarios now include Exam Practice. These activities give learners an insight into what to expect when taking their Functional Skills assessment, such as allocated marks per question and what an awarding body is expecting within an answer. Functional Skills Exam Practice is currently available for Maths at Level 1 and Level 2.

Interactive and self-marking

The bksb Revision Scenarios are fully interactive and self-marking, and are based on English and maths at Level 1 and Level 2.

Our ICT Revision Scenarios are available for download only.

Rigorous assessment for learners

The scenarios are the final step in the Functional Skills test preparation process. They are ideal for use as practice papers, testing a learner’s problem-solving skills. Our Revision Scenarios provide a rigorous assessment prior to the Functional Skills test.

A variety of scenarios at each level

The revision scenarios in English and maths consist of 6 functional skills scenarios of differing topics at each level. When a learner completes a set of scenarios, they receive a final percentage score, which informs them of how well they have done.

Application of knowledge to scenarios that learners may encounter

This product enables learners to apply the knowledge they have gained throughout the bksb process to situations they may come across and face in their everyday lives.

Benefits for tutors

The revision scenarios can be used by tutors in the classroom to help learners develop their skills in the application of Functional Skills to scenarios they may encounter in their daily lives. They also feature paper-based writing tasks which can be given to learners and marked by their tutor.

In-depth tracking and reporting

The scenarios provide a valuable tracking and reporting functionality for tutors and managers. This data is extremely insightful and assists greatly with lesson planning, learner management and for inspection evidence. Download our pdf to find out more about tracking and reporting.
