Gavin Williamson, former Secretary for Defence, has now been appointed as Secretary of State for Education following cabinet reshuffle.
Williamson will be replacing Damian Hinds as Secretary of State for Education as Hinds has confirmed that he will be returning to the backbenches.
Williamson tweeted the following about his new appointment earlier last week:
The new minister has received a variety of feedback about issues in the sector. Williamson’s top three priorities according to Paul Whiteman, General Secretary of the NAHT school leaders’ union, should be an:
“Immediate multi-billion-pound emergency investment in schools and colleges”
“A 5 per cent pay increase for all staff”
“Clear backing for all schools regarding diversity and equality.”
This is following Anne Milton’s recent resignation as Apprecnticship and Skills Minister.
