Employers to be in Control of Apprenticeship Funding

The Government have published their response to the ‘Future of Apprenticeships in England: Funding Reform Technical Consultation’ which proposes giving direct control of apprenticeship funding to employers, although the most effective way to achieve this has not yet been set upon.

The funding model itself will be simple, transparent and easy to use, and developed in collaboration with both large employers and SMEs. Skills Minister, Nick Boles, has stated that employers will have a huge amount of control over the design of apprenticeships via the trailblazer programme, as well as funding reforms. It is perceived that putting employers in the driving seat will further improve and expand apprenticeship programmes, and help to position the UK Apprenticeship system as a global leader.
