The Department for Education has announced the new chairman of Ofsted as David Hoare, a man appointed for his vast business experience. Mr Hoare is currently a trustee of academy chain AET, after being brought in to help reverse a slide in its performance, and will take up his new post at the UK’s education regulator in September.
David Hoare has chaired a number of large businesses in the UK including Virgin Express and Laura Ashley. His appointment comes after Baroness Morgan’s contract was not renewed by former Education Secretary Michael Gove in February of this year. It had been suggested by the former chairman that there was an agenda to install someone with Conservative ties to the position, but Mr Hoare has no political affiliations.
The new Education Secretary, Nicky Morgan, has said that she is ‘delighted’ with the appointment of David Hoare, and that he will form a ‘superb team’ with Sir Michael Wilshaw.
