Cabinet reshuffle sees Nicky Morgan become the new Education Secretary

Loughborough MP Nicky Morgan has replaced Michael Gove as the new Education Secretary.

Following Michael Gove’s new role as Chief Whip, Ms Morgan will take up the post, alongside her brief for Women and Equalities.

A member of the Conservative Party since the 2010 intake, she was appointed as a Conservative member of the Business, Innovation and Skills Select Committee within weeks, until being given the post of Parliamentary Private Secretary to Universities Minister David Willetts four weeks later. She was later promoted to Economic Secretary at the Treasury in October, and finally to Financial Secretary in April following Sajid Javid’s appointment as Culture Secretary.
