Asha Khemka awarded Damehood in New Year’s Honours

The Principal of West Nottinghamshire College has been appointed a Dame in the New Year’s Honours list.

Dame Asha Khemka, head of WNC since 2006, came to the UK from India at the age of 25 with no formal qualifications. Her remarkable rise to the top of the Further Education sector has seen her collect numerous regional and national awards, including the National Jewel Award for Excellence in Healthcare and Education (2007), the Midlands Businesswoman of the Year award (2009), an OBE (2009) and now a Damehood.

The first Indian-born woman to be awarded a Damehood for 83 years, Asha is humble in her acceptance of the honour. She credits her family, those she has worked with, and the communities of Mansfield and Ashfield for their support over the years.
