ESOL - Initial Assessment
The bksb initial assessment in ESOL has been designed to identify ESOL learners’ levels in the three skills of reading, writing and listening while also offering a predicted grade for speaking based on the results.
The assessment is mapped to the DIUS ESOL core curriculum and gives education providers the opportunity to have an overview of a learner’s level in the different skills. By assessing the skills in this way, tutors can see whether a learner has a ‘spiky profile’ and adapt their teaching to meet this. Upon completion of the initial assessment the learner is able to complete diagnostics in these skills to give a fuller picture of where their specific skills gaps are. For example, if needed, the learner is able to complete a diagnostic in reading at entry 3, writing at entry 1 and listening at level 2.
