New Ofsted Chairman Announced

The Department for Education has announced the new chairman of Ofsted as David Hoare, a man appointed for his vast business experience. Mr Hoare is currently a trustee of academy chain AET, after being brought in to help reverse a slide in its performance, and will take up his new post at the UK’s education regulator in September.

School leavers to be forced to retake GCSE English and maths if they achieve less than a C Grade

School leavers who fail to achieve a grade C or above in English and maths will be made to continue studying the subjects until they are 18, starting from September. The announcement was made by Matthew Hancock MP and is part of the Government’s drive to improve maths and English standards.
