ICT - Interactive Initial/Diagnostic Assessment
The
bksb ICT initial assessment, covering entry level 3 to functional skills level 2, has been designed to assess users against the ICT functional skills criteria. It allows for the fact that learners arrive at an organisation having used a variety of software. Therefore, the bksb software assesses the learner’s knowledge and understanding of ICT, not their expertise with a particular brand of software. Rest assured that the menus and icons will be recognisable to all. They will not be specific to one brand in terms of the overall layout. This approach is fair to all.
Depending on the user’s ability to use information and communication technology, the
bksb ICT initial assessment has branching - if a learner cannot answer the level 1 criteria, they will not be asked to work through the level 2 criteria. A separate level is given for each application, so a learner may be identified as level 2 in word processing and level 1 in spreadsheets etc. The
bksb ICT initial assessment includes:-
- Word processing
- Spreadsheets
- Databases
- Presentation
- Publication
- Email
- Internet
- General (Security, H&S, etc)

Skill checks
Following the learning resources used to close an identified skill gap, confirmation of competency can now be gained via the new interactive bksb
Skill Checks.
There are over 150 self-marking Skill Checks from Entry 3 to Level 3 covering all topics. Each student will only take the ones which are relevant to their individual skill gaps.
Passing the Skill Checks can reflect an important success and motivate the learner, as well as confirming competency. If the learner still requires further work to achieve competency, the printout directs the learner back to the tutor for additional learning support.
This new product truly completes the bksb best practice loop, and has proved to be an invaluable addition for all pilot organisations.
- fully interactive and self-marking
- specified to national standards and referenced to the adult core curriculum for both literacy and numeracy
