ICT - Interactive Initial/Diagnostic Assessment

The bksb ICT initial assessment, covering entry level 3 to functional skills level 2, has been designed to assess users against the ICT functional skills criteria. It allows for the fact that learners arrive at an organisation having used a variety of software. Therefore, the bksb software assesses the learner’s knowledge and understanding of ICT, not their expertise with a particular brand of software. Rest assured that the menus and icons will be recognisable to all. They will not be specific to one brand in terms of the overall layout. This approach is fair to all.

Depending on the user’s ability to use information and communication technology, the bksb ICT initial assessment has branching - if a learner cannot answer the level 1 criteria, they will not be asked to work through the level 2 criteria. A separate level is given for each application, so a learner may be identified as level 2 in word processing and level 1 in spreadsheets etc. The bksb ICT initial assessment includes:-
  • Word processing
  • Spreadsheets
  • Databases
  • Presentation
  • Publication
  • Email
  • Internet
  • General (Security, H&S, etc)
